This training provides Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC) with a trauma-informed understanding of how lived experiences of trauma can impact thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and participation in group settings. Participants will explore the principles of trauma-informed and healing-centered peer support and learn practical strategies for creating emotionally safe, inclusive, and empowering group environments. The training emphasizes maintaining peer roles and boundaries while responding to trauma-related behaviors or disclosures, supporting recovery and reducing the risk of re-traumatization. The CPSS and CPRC participants will leave with practical tools they can immediately apply when facilitating peer-led groups within their agencies.

Training Objectives:

  • Define trauma and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Identify trauma responses using peer support principles.
  • Discuss trauma-informed strategies that promote safety and participation in peer-led groups.
  • Demonstrating trauma-informed facilitation strategies through modeling peer-run group activities.

Eligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits.

Trainer:

Glynis Morris is a CPSS and CPRC with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She recently retired after more than 10 years with Lincoln Behavioral Services in Redford, Michigan, where she facilitated groups on trauma and co-occurring disorders and served as a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy team.

Glynis brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. She has trained CPSS and CPRC professionals across Michigan on human trafficking and trauma-informed healing, offering a compassionate, real-world perspective grounded in recovery and resilience.
