Flint- Emotional CPR Two Day Training

Emotional CPR (eCPR) is a public health education program that teaches people how to support someone experiencing an emotional crisis using three simple steps: Connecting, supporting, and revitalizing.
Emotional CPR (eCPR) draws from principles found in:
- Trauma-informed care.
- Post disaster counseling.
- Peer support.
- Emotional intelligence.
- Suicide prevention.
- Respect for individual backgrounds and lived experiences.
Participants will learn how to:
- Support individuals in channeling anger or intense emotions into purpose and strength.
- Spark motivation and meaningful change.
- Help others recognize their own courage and resilience.
- View crisis as a turning point for growth.
- Encourage next steps toward personal goals.
- Practice self-care to sustainably support others.
- Guide others in accessing their own inner wisdom.
Who Can Attend:
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDDHS) Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC).
Eligible for 13 MDHHS Continuing Education credits.
Trainers:
Carolyn Pifer, CPSS, Carolyn is a peer professional and trainer who brings both experience and compassion into her work. She is married and, with her husband, shares six grown children and eight grandchildren.
With a deep understanding of homelessness, poverty, and rebuilding life after a major mental health crisis, Carolyn offers a warm, nonjudgmental approach to peer support. In her trainings, she creates welcoming spaces that honor resilience, shared experience, and the belief that recovery is possible.
Braunwynn Franklin, CPSS, is the founder of 313 Network Solutions. She is a consultant, trainer, and advocate advancing trauma-responsive, peer-led systems across mental health, crisis care, incarceration, and reentry. Grounded in lived experience, her work centers around Black women, formerly incarcerated people, and community-based evidence, translating practice into policy, leadership development, and equitable systems change through education, facilitation, and accountable partnerships nationwide.
Dwayne Kelly CPSS, is a retired Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Development Specialist with decades of experience serving veterans and individuals navigating mental health and life-transition challenges. He is a CPSS, Emotional CPR and Ethics trainer. He is a 100% service-connected United States Marines Corp veteran and is recognized as a subject matter expert on veterans affairs.
Dwayne currently works part-time as a CPSS with Community Mental Health in Calhoun County at Summit Pointe, where he continues his commitment to empowering individuals through advocacy, education, and peer-driven support. He is also the Founder/Executive Director of the Veteran Reinforcement Resource Center (VRRC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans overcome barriers to benefits, stability, and well-being. Beyond his professional work, Dwayne is a husband, father, grandfather, and pastor, roles that deeply inform his compassionate, service-centered approach. His life’s work reflects a passion for strengthening individuals, families, and communities, especially those who have served.

Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be transferred to another employee of the same agency upon written request to registration@mipeers.org. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 12 days prior to the date of the training. Failure to cancel registration within the allotted time will result in registration fees being forfeited. Attendance Policy: You must attend the entire training. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Breaks are built into the training schedule. Participants who miss more than 10 minutes of the training outside of scheduled breaks will not receive CE credit. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
