Marquette- Advanced Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers

June 16 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
$50.00

Note: This new training is only for individuals in their second renewal cycle of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continuing education requirements. For the first recertification cycle, Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers is required.

Training Overview:

Certified peers across Michigan uphold the Peer Code of Ethics to protect both themselves and the people they serve. While some ethical dilemmas are clear-cut; others can be complex and unexpected. In this interactive training, we’ll take a deep dive into the Peer Code of Ethics and unpack real-world scenarios that test professional judgement. Participants will learn practical strategies to set healthy boundaries, navigate gray areas, and confidently respond to ethical challenges.

Training Objectives:

  • Compare and contrast personal values with peer support values.
  • Explore ethical scenarios using the Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.
  • Examine personal boundaries considering workplace policies.
  • Identify barriers to self-care and methods to improve self-care.

Eligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits.

Trainers:

Hunter Spiess, CPRC, CPSS, is an individual in long-term recovery who is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach. With five years of experience in the peer profession and a strong background in harm reduction, Hunter is committed to supporting individuals navigating substance use, mental health challenges, and personal transformation.
Grounded in ethics, compassion, and lived experience, he brings a steady, person-centered approach to recovery support and training as a peer trainer for MDHHS. Hunter is also a musician and a proud uncle to two wonderful children, who continually inspire his dedication to fostering hope, resilience, and connection within the communities he serves.

Glynis Morris, CPSS, CPRC, is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She recently retired after more than 10 years with Lincoln Behavioral Services in Redford, Michigan, where she facilitated groups on trauma and co-occurring disorders and served as a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy team.
Glynis brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. She has trained CPSS and CPRC professionals across Michigan on human trafficking and trauma-informed healing, offering a compassionate, real-world perspective grounded in recovery and resilience. Her passion lies in giving back to individuals who feel hopeless after experiencing the cruelty of life and in walking alongside others as they rediscover strength, purpose, and healing.

Coffee and lunch will be served at this training.
