Emotional CPR (eCPR) is a public health education program that teaches people how to support someone experiencing an emotional crisis using three simple steps: Connecting, supporting, and revitalizing.

Emotional CPR (eCPR) draws from principles found in:

  • Trauma-informed care.
  • Post disaster counseling.
  • Peer support.
  • Emotional intelligence.
  • Suicide prevention.
  • Respect for individual backgrounds and lived experiences.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Support individuals in channeling anger or intense emotions into purpose and strength.
  • Spark motivation and meaningful change.
  • Help others recognize their own courage and resilience.
  • View crisis as a turning point for growth.
  • Encourage next steps toward personal goals.
  • Practice self-care to sustainably support others.
  • Guide others in accessing their own inner wisdom.

Who Can Attend:

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDDHS) Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC).

Trainers:

Carolyn Pifer, CPSS, Carolyn is a peer professional and trainer who brings both experience and compassion into her work. She is married and, with her husband, shares six grown children and eight grandchildren.

With a deep understanding of homelessness, poverty, and rebuilding life after a major mental health crisis, Carolyn offers a warm, nonjudgmental approach to peer support. In her trainings, she creates welcoming spaces that honor resilience, shared experience, and the belief that recovery is possible.

Braunwynn Franklin, CPSS, is the founder of 313 Network Solutions. She is a consultant, trainer, and advocate advancing trauma-responsive, peer-led systems across mental health, crisis care, incarceration, and reentry. Grounded in lived experience, her work centers around Black women, formerly incarcerated people, and community-based evidence, translating practice into policy, leadership development, and equitable systems change through education, facilitation, and accountable partnerships nationwide.

Jose Salinas, CPRC, CPSS, is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach and a state of Michigan Peer trainer.. With over a decade of experience in peer support, Jose has facilitated trainings in Mental Health First Aid, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), Emotional CPR, and mindfulness-based programs for addiction recovery. He is deeply committed to helping individuals navigate recovery from substance use and mental health challenges, offering trauma-sensitive, and compassionate support rooted in lived experience.

A person in long-term recovery from addiction, mental health conditions, trauma, and poverty, Jose is passionate about sharing his story to inspire hope and healing in others. He finds strength and connection through nature, community, and his two loyal Australian Shepherds, Chiquis, and Peques—his sunrise running partners on hidden trails. Jose believes he didn’t survive addiction for himself alone, but to support others. His life’s work is guided by a drive to help people find their own paths to wellness and recovery.
