RAM Center (Higgins Lake)- Not Every Storm Is a Crisis: Exploring the Difference

October 29 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
$50.00

This practical, skills-focused session explores the difference between distress and crisis and why recognizing that difference matters. Participants will use the Ethics and Boundaries framework to practice responding to real-world situations with confidence and clarity. Through discussion and hands-on activities, they’ll learn how to stay grounded, respond within their role, and know when additional support is needed.

Objectives

  1. Participants will practice recognizing the difference between distress and imminent risk using real-world language and examples from the Ethics and Boundaries framework (focus on understanding meaning, timing, and urgency, not assessment).
  2. Participants will practice Ethics and Boundaries response skills, including grounding, curiosity, and containment, to stay calm, focused, and within their role during challenging situations (concrete practice: slowing down, exploring meaning, responding without panic).
  3. Participants will practice choosing appropriate next steps for both distress and crisis situations, including when to pause, when to seek additional support, and how to maintain a supportive relationship (practical skills that reflect what peers do in real-world situations).

She brings a unique perspective based on her own personal and professional experiences.
