Novi- Advanced Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers

April 27 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
$50.00

Note: This new training is only for individuals in their second recertification cycle of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continuing education requirements. For the first recertification cycle, Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers is required.

Training Overview:

Certified peers across Michigan uphold the Peer Code of Ethics to protect both themselves and the people they serve. While some ethical dilemmas are clear-cut; others can be complex and unexpected. In this interactive training, we’ll take a deep dive into the Peer Code of Ethics and unpack real-world scenarios that test professional judgement. Participants will learn practical strategies to set healthy boundaries, navigate gray areas, and confidently respond to ethical challenges.

Training Objectives:

  • Compare and contrast personal values with peer support values.
  • Explore ethical scenarios using the Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.
  • Examine personal boundaries considering workplace policies.
  • Identify barriers to self-care and methods to improve self-care.

Trainers:

Jose Salinas, CPSS, CPRC, is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach and a state of Michigan Peer trainer. With over a decade of experience in peer support, Jose has facilitated trainings in Mental Health First Aid, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), Emotional CPR, and mindfulness-based programs for addiction recovery. He is deeply committed to helping individuals navigate recovery from substance use and mental health challenges, offering trauma-sensitive, and compassionate support rooted in lived experience.

A person in long-term recovery from addiction, mental health conditions, trauma, and poverty, Jose is passionate about sharing his story to inspire hope and healing in others. He finds strength and connection through nature, community, and his two loyal Australian Shepherds, Chiquis, and Peques—his sunrise running partners on hidden trails. Jose believes he didn’t survive addiction for himself alone, but to support others. His life’s work is guided by a drive to help people find their own paths to wellness and recovery.

Andrew Brown LLMSW, CPRC, CPRM, is a clinical social worker, recovery coach, and person in long-term recovery. He is passionate about a multiple pathways approach to recovery and is deeply committed to harm reduction. Andrew is also dedicated to expanding and improving services to ensure that resources are accessible for all individuals seeking help with substance-related issues.
