Person Centered Planning

August 17 - 8:30 am - 12:45 pm
$25.00
Graphic of person centered planning

This training is designed to provide Peer Support Specialists and Recovery Coaches working in behavioral health with a deeper understanding of person-centered planning and the vital role they can play in supporting individuals throughout the process. Grounded in the values of lived experience, empowerment, and advocacy, the training explores how peers can become more actively involved in helping individuals prepare for and participate in their own planning.

A key focus of the training is pre-planning, emphasizing how peers can help individuals identify their goals, preferences, strengths, and support needs prior to formal planning meetings. Participants will learn practical strategies to ensure individuals feel confident, prepared, and in control of their planning experience.

The training also introduces the role of the independent facilitator, including responsibilities, boundaries, and how this role differs from traditional service roles. Participants will gain insight into how peers may expand into independent facilitation and support person-centered processes while maintaining a neutral, supportive approach.

Additionally, the training covers the concept of self-direction, highlighting how individuals can exercise greater choice and control over their services and supports through controlling an individual budget. Peers will learn how to effectively support individuals in understanding and navigating self-directed options.

Overall, this training equips peers with the knowledge and tools to:
• Be more actively involved in person-centered planning.
• Support meaningful pre-planning conversations.
• Promote individual voice, choice, and autonomy.
• Understand opportunities for professional growth as independent facilitators.

This overview provides a foundation for strengthening peer involvement in person-centered practices and enhancing outcomes for the individuals they support.
