Building Stress Resilience using Mindfulness: Full Day Training for Peers in Crisis Settings

Mindfulness is a unique way of paying attention that enhances well-being and helps us cope with the struggles of everyday life. In this class, you will learn what mindfulness is, what science has to say about its benefits, and how it can help you deal with the stress of everyday life. You will experience formal mindfulness practices that train your mind for greater focus and clarity and informal practices to integrate into your day to enhance your ability to remain calm, curious, and kind.

You will learn:

  • Skills to shift from reacting to responding to stress.
  • The research that supports mindfulness as a tool to reduce stress.
  • What mindfulness is and how it can benefit you.
  • How to work with difficult thoughts and emotions.
  • Mindful movement and Meditation practices.

Scientific research has consistently demonstrated that mindfulness:

  • Reduces stress, anxiety, and depression.
  • Improves sleep.
  • Reduces symptoms of chronic illness.
  • Improves confidence and self-acceptance.

How to prepare: 

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing.
  • Have a water bottle and snacks available.
  • Arrange to keep technology to a minimum.
  • There will be a 60-Minute lunch break and two 15-Minute Breaks.
  • Suspend judgment and meet the day with curiosity.

About the Trainer:

Carol Hendershot, Exp RYT 500 Yoga Instructor
Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor
Co-Founder, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness

Carol has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and Mindful Self-Compassion classes since 2014. She has led hundreds of students through these programs. Her classes emphasize safety and self-honoring as she guides students to build resilience and strengthen their mindfulness skills.

Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be transferred to another employee of the same agency upon written request to registration@mipeers.org. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 12 days prior to the date of the training. Failure to cancel registration within the allotted time will result in registration fees being forfeited. Attendance Policy: You must attend the entire training. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Breaks are built into the training schedule. Participants who miss more than 10 minutes of the training outside of scheduled breaks will not receive CE credit. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
