Ann Arbor- Peer Drift

This interactive training equips peer support workers to hold firm to the unique power of the peer role, even in environments that may blur boundaries or challenge scope. Through discussion, reflection, and practical activities, participants will leave with a toolbox of strategies to confidently define, defend, and embody the peer role across diverse settings.
Objectives:
- Recognize and avoid role drift by strengthening role clarity and staying grounded in peer values.
- Practice tools for maintaining role integrity, protecting the distinctiveness of peer support, and advancing the peer movement.
- Explore strategies for staying rooted through system pressures, including policies and organizational culture.
- Redefine supervision through a peer lens, centering collaboration, reflection, and mutuality.
Trainer:
Trenda Hedges is the founder of Peer Power LLC and a highly respected leader in the peer support movement. As a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS), Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), and advanced level Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP®) facilitator, Trenda is known for embodying the principles she teaches. She maintains strong fidelity to the evidence-based model of peer support while helping organizations implement peer programs in real-world environments. She strengthens peer workforce development across multiple states and is recognized for balancing structure and authenticity in both training and technical assistance spaces. Her work and contributions have been featured on Crisis Jam and in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) publications. Trenda creates environments where people feel seen, heard, and empowered. She believes deeply in supporting the self-discovery process and creating opportunities for peers to identify and elevate their strengths and skills.
Eligible for 6.5 Michigan Department of Health and Human Services continuing education credits.

Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be transferred to another employee of the same agency upon written request to registration@mipeers.org. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 12 days prior to the date of the training. Failure to cancel registration within the allotted time will result in registration fees being forfeited. Attendance Policy: You must attend the entire training. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Breaks are built into the training schedule. Participants who miss more than 10 minutes of the training outside of scheduled breaks will not receive CE credit. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
