Challenging Relationships & Caregiver Fatigue for Peers in Crisis Settings

$25

Eligible for 4 MDHHS Continuing Education Credits. $25 Registration Fee

Relationships can be difficult. In this class you will learn about two different types of relational pain: the pain of disconnection and the pain of connection.

The pain of disconnection is something we are all familiar with. Our first reaction to conflict with family, colleagues, or acquaintances is often anger, resentment, and emotional distancing. These difficult emotions often conceal more subtle emotions and unmet needs that we didn’t realize were there.

The other type of relational discomfort, the pain of connection, can occur in caregiving situations simply because we are human. We are hardwired to connect, cooperate, and nurture one another. This makes our lives rich and rewarding but can also make us vulnerable to the empathic distress of feeling the suffering of others as our own.

Mindfulness and compassion skills can help us work with the discomfort caused by both types of relational pain.
