Mindfulness Skills to Manage Difficult Emotions for Peers in Crisis Settings

Training Overview: 

We all experience painful emotional states at times. Anger, anxiety, and fear are adaptive reactions to challenges because they direct our attention to threats to help us survive in difficult circumstances. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our moment-to-moment experience with curiosity and acceptance rather than judgment and resistance. By learning to pay attention in this way, we can begin to diffuse the negative effects of complex emotions and understand their true meaning.

Mindfulness tools help us deal with these difficult mind states by focusing our attention on what is important right now. They also guide us to identify our triggers, clarify our feelings, and respond with wisdom. Mindfulness training has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to reduce distress, improve the quality of our emotional fitness, and even alter the structure and function of our brains.

Learn Mindfulness Skills to:

  • Identify emotional triggers.
  • Reduce emotional reactivity.
  • Recover from intense emotions more quickly.
  • Examine the validity of our thoughts.

Learn practices that increase resilience such as:

  • Yoga, meditation, and the body scan.
  • Regular routines to release stress throughout the day.

Co-Founder, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness

Carol has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and has led hundreds of students through the program. Her classes emphasize safety and self-honoring as she guides students to build resilience and strengthen their mindfulness skills.

Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be transferred to another employee of the same agency upon written request to registration@mipeers.org. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 12 days prior to the date of the training. Failure to cancel registration within the allotted time will result in registration fees being forfeited. Attendance Policy: You must attend the entire training. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Please note there is absolutely NO driving during the training. If you are driving while attending the training, you will be removed from the training for your own safety. Training guidelines must be read, signed, and returned back to the office before a zoom link is sent to the participant. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
