Managing Difficult Emotions: Mindfulness for Peers in Crisis Settings

We all experience painful emotional states. Anger, anxiety, and fear arrive without warning. These are adaptive reactions to life circumstances that help us recognize and confront challenges.

With mindfulness we learn to calm our nervous system and meet these inevitable difficulties with curiosity instead of resistance. By paying attention in this way, we begin to diffuse the negative effects of complex emotions so we can focus on what is most important and respond with wisdom.

Mindfulness training has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to reduce distress, improve the quality of our emotional fitness, and even alter the structure and function of our brains.

According to Peer Reviewed Research, Regular Mindfulness Practice:

  • Improves sleep, focus, and attention.
  • Enhances ability to experience joy and contentment.
  • Increases confidence and self-acceptance.

Carol has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and has led hundreds of students through the program. Her classes emphasize safety and self-honoring as she guides students to build resilience and strengthen their mindfulness skills.

Eligible for 6 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. This is a virtual training. Up to 13 virtual Continuing Education credits are allowed to be used towards the 32 credits required for recertification.

Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be transferred to another employee of the same agency upon written request to registration@mipeers.org. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 12 days prior to the date of the training. Failure to cancel registration within the allotted time will result in registration fees being forfeited. Attendance Policy: You must attend the entire training. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Please note there is absolutely NO driving during the training. If you are driving while attending the training, you will be removed from the training for your own safety. Training guidelines must be read, signed, and returned back to the office before a zoom link is sent to the participant. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
