DESCRIPTION:Crisis Through a Peer Support Lens:\nConnection\, Compassion\, and Care \nAs more peer workers serve in crisis settings roles\, it is vital to understand crisis through a peer lens\, stay rooted in core peer support values and remain anchored in peer support competencies. This training provides information\, skills\, and practical applications that peer workers can use in various crisis settings. \nBy the end of the training\, participants will be able to:\n• Define crisis through a peer support model.\n• Apply core peer support values to crisis situations.\n• Practice trauma-informed responses to reduce traumatization of self and others.\n• Use cultural knowledge to create connections.\n• Develop communication skills to use during crisis situations.\n• Support self and others after a crisis has occurred. \nApproved for 19.5 Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 p.m. May 18\, 2025. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. DESCRIPTION:Do not say that awareness and kindness are separate.\nOne cannot arise without the other.\nAwareness is the foundation of kindness\nand kindness is the foundation of awareness. \nMindfulness is a special way of paying attention that enhances well-being and wisdom. Self-kindness is befriending and supporting ourselves through the struggles of life. The two are like the wings of a bird that find more balance and ease. They help us remember all of us struggle\, and we are not alone. These powerful tools enhance emotional resilience and well-being. In peer-reviewed studies\, mindfulness and self-kindness have been shown to significantly increase as life satisfaction as well as compassion for self and others and decrease depression\, anxiety\, and stress. \nSome things you will learn:\n-What mindfulness and self-compassion are\, their benefits\, and the research that supports them.\n-The myths surrounding these practices.\n-How these practices help us live our values.\n-How we cause ourselves unnecessary suffering and what to do about it.\n-How we can be more effective by motivating ourselves with kindness rather than criticism. \nHow to prepare:\n-Wear loose comfortable clothing and dress in layers for comfort.\n-Bring a water bottle.\n-Arrange to keep technology to a minimum.\n-There will be a 60-minute lunch break as part of the day.\n-Suspend judgment and meet the day with curiosity and openness. \nWhat’s Included:\n-Mindfulness and Self-Kindness handbook.\n-Mindfulness and Self-kindness audio practices.\n-Gentle mindful movement videos. \nCarol Hendershot\, Exp RYT 500 Yoga Instructor\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness\nCarol has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and Mindful Self-Compassion classes since 2014.
