SUMMARY:Marquette- Seeing Through the Lens of Trauma
DESCRIPTION:This training provides Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC) with a trauma-informed understanding of how lived experiences of trauma can impact thoughts\, emotions\, behaviors\, and participation in group settings. Participants will explore the principles of trauma-informed and healing-centered peer support and learn practical strategies for creating emotionally safe\, inclusive\, and empowering group environments. The training emphasizes maintaining peer roles and boundaries while responding to trauma-related behaviors or disclosures\, supporting recovery and reducing the risk of re-traumatization. The CPSS and CPRC participants will leave with practical tools they can immediately apply when facilitating peer-led groups within their agencies. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nDefine trauma and Trauma Informed Care.\nIdentify trauma responses using peer support principles.\nDiscuss trauma-informed strategies that promote safety and participation in peer-led groups.\nDemonstrating trauma-informed facilitation strategies through modeling peer-run group activities.\n\nEligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits. \nTrainer: \nGlynis Morris is a CPSS and CPRC with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She recently retired after more than 10 years with Lincoln Behavioral Services in Redford\, Michigan\, where she facilitated groups on trauma and co-occurring disorders and served as a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy team. \nGlynis brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. She has trained CPSS and CPRC professionals across Michigan on human trafficking and trauma-informed healing\, offering a compassionate\, real-world perspective grounded in recovery and resilience. Her passion lies in giving back to individuals who feel hopeless after experiencing the cruelty of life and in walking alongside others as they rediscover strength\, purpose\, and healing. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. DESCRIPTION:Note: This new training is only for individuals in their second renewal cycle of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continuing education requirements. For the first recertification cycle\, Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers is required. \nTraining Overview: \nCertified peers across Michigan uphold the Peer Code of Ethics to protect both themselves and the people they serve. While some ethical dilemmas are clear-cut; others can be complex and unexpected. In this interactive training\, we’ll take a deep dive into the Peer Code of Ethics and unpack real-world scenarios that test professional judgement. Participants will learn practical strategies to set healthy boundaries\, navigate gray areas\, and confidently respond to ethical challenges. \nTraining Objectives:  \n\nCompare and contrast personal values with peer support values.\nExplore ethical scenarios using the Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExamine personal boundaries considering workplace policies.\nIdentify barriers to self-care and methods to improve self-care.\n\nEligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits. \nTrainers: \nHunter Spiess\, CPRC\, CPSS\, is an individual in long-term recovery who is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach. SUMMARY:Marquette- Human Trafficking and the Effectiveness of Peer Support
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Human Trafficking and the Effectiveness of Peer Support is designed to provide peers with functional and practical tools\, enabling them to learn and better understand the crime of human trafficking\, the different types of human trafficking that exist\, and an understanding of the scope of the problem. This course will enable peers in the field to better identify human trafficking and provide greater assistance. Victims of human trafficking suffer a violation of human rights. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nTo gain an understanding of the scope and magnitude of human trafficking.\nUnderstand the unique dynamics of human trafficking and the circumstances that victims experience\, including the trauma and context of fear and manipulation.\nApply tools and victim assistance strategies when working with individuals involved in human trafficking to ensure their safety.\nDescribe the various partnerships that are essential for helping them.\nTo recognize and articulate the various forms of human trafficking and modern-day slavery that exist.\nTo understand the physical\, emotional\, and spiritual trauma experienced by victims.\nTo facilitate a discussion with your agency on human trafficking.\n\nEligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits. \nPresented by: Deborah Monroe\, CPSS\, CPRC\, CHW \nDeborah Monroe is a Certified Peer Support Specialist\, Certified Peer Recovery Coach and Community Health Worker. She has over 15 years of experience grounded in recovery\, connection\, and hope. She has provided state certification trainings within the Michigan Department of Corrections\, and supported individuals returning from incarceration\, she strengthened person-centered planning and is an independent facilitator in Oakland County. Deb is the lead trainer in providing crisis training on behalf of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Peer Services area. She established Michigan’s first Peer-run respite and has supported peers in a variety of crisis settings. Deb was appointed by two governors to three terms on the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission.
