DESCRIPTION:Connections in Crisis emphasizes the value of lived experience and mutual support in crisis situations. This training teaches participants how peer support complements clinical services in crisis response. It equips peer supporters with essential tools and techniques that reduce tension or intensity. Emphasis is placed on creating sustainable\, healthy crisis support practices. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nDefinitions and types of crises along with common reactions.\nRole boundaries for relational crisis response.\nCrisis support skills that reduce tension or intensity.\nCultural humility and trauma informed support responses.\nSelf-care and support after a crisis.\n\nMeet the trainer:\nTrenda Hedges\, CRSS\, CPRS believes in the power of lived experience through peer support! She creates spaces where people can bring their authentic selves to mutually learn alongside one another. In addition to her lived experience\, Trenda holds Certified Recovery Support Specialist\, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist\, and Advance Level WRAP® Facilitator credentials. She has degrees too\, but her life experience means more than anything she could have learned in school or a textbook. DESCRIPTION:Trauma-informed peer support is a powerful and essential approach grounded in empathy\, mutuality\, and empowerment and guided by lived experience. \nThis 2-day training teaches participants that supporters are uniquely positioned to validate and normalize trauma experiences while promoting mutual growth. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nDefine trauma\, its effects on us and others.\nUnderstand how our own trauma experiences influence our support responses.\nSelf-assess our level of risk for compassion fatigue\, burnout\, and secondary traumatic stress.\nDevelop strategies that will serve as protective factors when supporting others.\nLearn to recognize re-traumatization.\nInteract in ways that minimize re-traumatization.\nDiscover how to support post-traumatic growth.\nIntegrate knowledge about trauma into peer support practices.\n\nAbout the Trainer: Trenda Hedges\, CRSS\, CPRS\, Peer Power \nTrenda Hedges believes in the power of lived experience.  As the CEO of Peer Power\, she envisions individual lives\, communities\, and entire systems positively impacted because of the power of lived experience through peer support. SUMMARY:Marquette- Power With: Leading from the Heart
DESCRIPTION:Peer support leadership is more about supervision and people management. Our lived experiences shape who we are\, how we interact with others and how we hold and share power with others in our communities. This workshop will introduce liberatory peer support leadership. Themes discussed will include common misconceptions about leadership culture\, navigating hierarchy in real life situations\, and the importance of leading from the heart and remaining rooted in our lived experiences. \nObjectives:\n• Participants will receive a nuanced introduction to liberatory peer leadership and its key elements.\n• Participants will identify their unique leadership voice and style and understand the importance of remaining rooted in their own lived experiences.\n• Participants will practice their own unique leadership voice and style using common scenarios related to supervision\, team management\, local community\, and immediate relationships. \nTrainer: Nze Okoronta\nNze is a harm reductionist\, facilitator\, and consultant. They are known for work surrounding crisis services\, public health impact and social policy. They provide consultation around crisis alternatives\, peer run respites\, peer run warmlines\, peer support supervision and harm reduction. Nze has past experiences in housing\, diversity\, equity and inclusion\, clinical substance abuse counseling\, and population specific SUD program development for Black and brown communities. \nNze is currently the Peer Services Program Director at SOAR Case Management Services Inc.\, overseeing Solstice House Peer Run Respite in Madison\, WI. They also work as a Technical Assistance Consultant for PRCoE (Peer Recovery Center of Excellence) and Harm Reduction Equity Consultant for PeerPride.
