DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This training is only for individuals who are in the first recertification cycle of MDHHS continuing education requirements.  For the second recertification cycle\, Second Edition Ethics will be required. \nTraining Overview: \nCertified peers across the state of Michigan are required to adhere to the Peer Code of Ethics to help protect both clients and peers. While many ethical issues seem obvious\, others can be more nuanced or unexpected. In this training\, we will explore the Peer Code of Ethics in more detail while outlining effective strategies to set professional boundaries that can help avoid or respond to ethical concerns you may face. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the core components of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExplore possibilities of how unethical decisions happen.\nIdentify and evaluate self-care practices to maintain boundaries and ethical behavior.\nExplore how to be more effective when setting and maintaining boundaries.\nPractice and exercise decision-making skills when presented with an ethical dilemma.\n\nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nCoffee and lunch will be served at this training. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 pm on November 5\, 2025. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. DESCRIPTION:BOUNCE is a mindfulness-based training for Peer Recovery Coaches and Peer Support Specialists. It offers a simple\, structured approach to support personal recovery\, emotional resilience\, and deeper connection with others. \nParticipants learn small\, accessible mindfulness practices to stay grounded\, respond with compassion\, and find clarity during challenges. Using the BOUNCE acronym\, they gain practical tools to use in daily life and peer work. The training also includes trauma-sensitive practices to help peers hold space with care and respect for diverse recovery paths. \nTraining Objectives: \nBy the end of this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain how mindfulness supports recovery and wellness.\nApply the BOUNCE framework personally and professionally.\nGuide grounding practices like mindful breathing and observation.\nRecognize triggers and use tools like self-reflection for emotional regulation.\nBuild authentic peer connections through compassionate inquiry and curiosity.\nPractice empathy and equanimity in recovery support.\nUse and share concrete mindfulness tools in everyday life.\n\nAbout the Trainer: \nBio: Jose is a Certified Peer Support Specialist\, Certified Peer Recovery Coach\, and a State of Michigan Peer Trainer. With over a decade of experience in Peer Support\, Jose has facilitated trainings in Mental Health First Aid\, QPR (Question\, Persuade\, Refer)\, Emotional CPR\, and mindfulness-based programs for addiction recovery. He is deeply committed to helping individuals navigate recovery from substance use and mental health challenges\, offering trauma-sensitive\, compassionate support rooted in lived experience. \nA person in long-term recovery from addiction\, mental health conditions\, trauma\, and poverty\, Jose is passionate about sharing his story to inspire hope and healing in others. He finds strength and connection through nature\, community\, and his two loyal Australian Shepherds\, Chiquis and Peques—his sunrise running partners on hidden trails.
