SUMMARY:RAM Center (Higgins Lake)- Ethics and Boundaries for Peer Workers
DESCRIPTION:Note: This training is only for individuals who are in the first recertification cycle of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continuing education requirements. For the second recertification cycle\, Second Edition Ethics will be required. \nTraining Overview: \nCertified peers across the state of Michigan are required to adhere to the Peer Code of Ethics to help protect both clients and peers. While many ethical issues seem obvious\, others can be more nuanced or unexpected. In this training\, we will explore the Peer Code of Ethics in more detail while outlining effective strategies to set professional boundaries that can help avoid or respond to ethical concerns you may face. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the core components of the MDHHS Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExplore possibilities of how unethical decisions happen.\nIdentify and evaluate self-care practices to maintain boundaries and ethical behavior.\nExplore how to be more effective when setting and maintaining boundaries.\nPractice and exercise decision-making skills when presented with an ethical dilemma.\n\nTrainers:  \nGlynis Morris is a CPSS and CPRC with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She recently retired after more than 10 years with Lincoln Behavioral Services in Redford\, Michigan\, where she facilitated groups on trauma and co-occurring disorders and served as a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy team. \nGlynis brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. She has trained CPSS and CPRC professionals across Michigan on human trafficking and trauma-informed healing\, offering a compassionate\, real-world perspective grounded in recovery and resilience. Her passion lies in giving back to individuals who feel hopeless after experiencing the cruelty of life and in walking alongside others as they rediscover strength\, purpose\, and healing. \nDwayne Kelly CPSS\, is a retired Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Development Specialist with decades of experience serving veterans and individuals navigating mental health and life-transition challenges. He is a CPSS\, Emotional CPR and Ethics trainer. He is a 100% service-connected United States Marine Corp veteran and is recognized as a subject matter expert on veteran’s affairs. \nDwayne currently works part-time as a CPSS with Community Mental Health in Calhoun County at Summit Pointe\, where he continues his commitment to empowering individuals through advocacy\, education\, and peer-driven support. He is also the Founder/Executive Director of the Veteran Reinforcement Resource Center (VRRC)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans overcome barriers to benefits\, stability\, and well-being. \nBeyond his professional work\, Dwayne is a husband\, father\, grandfather\, and pastor\, roles that deeply inform his compassionate\, service-centered approach. DESCRIPTION:Creating a Balanced Life: Wellness within the Eight Dimensions introduces participants to the concept of wellness as an essential part of personal growth and recovery. This training will increase awareness of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and explore how each dimension can support balance\, resilience\, and overall well-being in daily life and throughout the recovery journey. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine wellness and balance.\nDefine and explain the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.\nPromote wellness in all aspects of life.\nBe able to facilitate Eight Dimensions of Wellness group.\n\nPresented by: \nJulie Smythe\, CPSS\, is a passionate advocate for recovery and supporting the Peer workforce in the state of Michigan. As the Coordinator of Peer Recovery Trainings and Supports\, Julie is committed to supporting a multifaceted approach to recovery and recovery pathways. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)\, Julie spent 10 years on the Assertive Community Treatment team\, seven years as part of the CPSS certification training team\, before embarking on her current position. She is instrumental in the creation and collaboration of new and best practice curriculums to support the advancement of the Peer workforce in Michigan. \nRodasi Campbell\, CPRC\, RCPF\, ERYT\, is a woman on the path of discovery in recovery from substances\, mental health\, relationships\, and the mind. DESCRIPTION:Monday\, Tuesday\, Wednesday and Thursday – 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. \nFriday – 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  \nAttend a five-day learning process in WRAP to become a Copeland Certified WRAP Facilitator. \nYou will gain a deeper understanding of the recovery process and learn to: \n\nFacilitate groups in creating their individualized WRAP.\n\n\nEmpower and motivate people to work toward recovery and wellness.\n\n\nEnhance the valuable relationship between WRAP and the work of a peer.\n\n\nPromote authenticity and unconditional high regard for all\, as well as a strong set of values and ethics to guide you.\n\nWho Should Attend? \nThe Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) or Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC) who have met the following criteria: \n\nCompleted your own WRAP\, which includes crisis planning/post crisis planning by attending a WRAP group.\nBe able to submit a certificate of completion of the two-day WRAP workshop signed by two advanced WRAP facilitators. Certificate date must be within the last two years.\nHave actively applied the principles of WRAP in your own wellness and recovery journey.\nCan speak for five minutes on the topic of recovery.\nEveryone must have support from their agency to implement WRAP workshops.\n\nPresenters: \nDeborah Monroe\, CPSS\, CPRC\, CHW\, Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator\, has over 15 years of experience grounded in recovery\, connection\, and hope. She has provided state certification trainings within the Michigan Department of Corrections\, and supported individuals returning from incarceration\, she strengthened person-centered planning and is an independent facilitator in Oakland County. Deb is the lead trainer in providing crisis training on behalf of the MDHHS Peer Services Area. She established Michigan’s first peer-run respite and has supported peers in a variety of crisis settings. Deb was appointed by two governors to three terms on the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission. She is an advanced WRAP facilitator and provides statewide certification and continuing education training for CPSS and CPRC. \nJeanne White\, CPSS\, Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator\, is a person who has been in recovery since the mid 1980’s. Jeanne brings a wealth of knowledge from lived experiences through her own personal recovery. Jeanne has worked as a CPSS since 2008. Jeanne\, her husband Bob\, and her loyal golden retriever have supported peers as they attended their initial peer trainings as onsite coordinator/liaison with MDHHS Peer services area. Jeanne was certified as a WRAP facilitator and advanced level WRAP trainer in 2008. Since then\, she has facilitated many WRAP groups and trained peers across the state of Michigan through MDHHS and her own business\, Recovery INK\, LLC. Since 2020\, Jeanne has worked as both a Peer Warmline responder and supervisor on the Peer Warmline. Jeanne continues her daily pathway of recovery that is built on a positive attitude and personal responsibility. \nEligible for 29 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nOnly if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org.
