DESCRIPTION:Invisible Wounds: Understanding Trauma Beyond What the Eye Can See is a comprehensive training that explores how trauma often manifests internally through emotional\, psychological\, and physiological changes rather than visible injury. This workshop equips participants with a deeper understanding of hidden trauma responses across diverse populations and provides practical strategies for supportive\, trauma-informed engagement that honor each person’s background\, lived experience\, and community context. \nBy the end of this training\, you should: \n\nBe able to identify the concept of “invisible wounds” and describe how trauma can manifest emotionally\, psychologically\, and physically without visible injury.\nUnderstand the hidden impact of trauma\, including how chronic stress and traumatic experiences affect the brain\, body\, and behavior.\nRecognize common barriers that prevent individuals\, especially men and marginalized populations\, from disclosing invisible trauma and seeking support.\nBe prepared to apply trauma-informed principles to support individuals with invisible wounds through validation\, safety-building\, and engagement that respect the person’s background\, identity\, and community experience.\n\nAbout the Trainer: \nDr. Kevin Scott is an honorably discharged decorated Marine Veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master of Science\, both in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University in Durham\, NC. He earned a doctorate in Community Counseling and Care specializing in Traumatology from Liberty University in Lynchburg\, Virginia. Dr. Scott also maintains national memberships and state certifications across several mental health and professional organizations\, including Harvard’s T. H. SUMMARY:Detroit/Novi- Peer Connections in Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Peer Connections in Crisis emphasizes the value of lived experience and mutual support in crisis situations. This training teaches participants how peer support complements clinical services in crisis response. It equips peer supporters with essential tools and techniques that reduce tension or intensity. Emphasis is placed on creating sustainable\, healthy crisis support practices. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nDefinitions and types of crises along with common reactions.\nRole boundaries for relational crisis response.\nCrisis support skills that reduce tension or intensity.\nLived-experience–informed humility and trauma informed support responses.\nSelf-care and support after a crisis.\n\nCoffee and lunch will be served at this training. \nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits.  \nPlease note that a minimum of 12 participants is required for this training. If registration does not meet this minimum\, the session may be canceled. \nTrainers: \nDeborah Monroe is a CPSS\, CPRC and Community Health Worker. She has over 15 years of experience grounded in recovery\, connection\, and hope. She has provided state certification trainings within the Michigan Department of Corrections\, and supported individuals returning from incarceration\, she strengthened person-centered planning and is an independent facilitator in Oakland County. Deb is the lead trainer in providing crisis training on behalf of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Peer Services area. She established Michigan’s first Peer-run respite and has supported peers in a variety of crisis settings. Deb was appointed by two governors to three terms on the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission. DESCRIPTION:Emotional CPR (eCPR) is a public health education program that teaches people how to support someone experiencing an emotional crisis using three simple steps: Connecting\, supporting\, and revitalizing. \nEmotional CPR (eCPR) draws from principles found in: \n\nTrauma-informed care.\n\n\nPost disaster counseling.\n\n\nPeer support.\n\n\nEmotional intelligence.\n\n\nSuicide prevention.\n\n\n\nRespect for individual backgrounds and lived experiences.\n\nParticipants will learn how to: \n\nSupport individuals in channeling anger or intense emotions into purpose and strength.\nSpark motivation and meaningful change.\nHelp others recognize their own courage and resilience.\nView crisis as a turning point for growth.\nEncourage next steps toward personal goals.\nPractice self-care to sustainably support others.\nGuide others in accessing their own inner wisdom.\n\nWho Can Attend: \nMichigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDDHS) Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC). \nEligible for 13 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nBreakfast and lunch will be served at this training. \nTrainers: \nCarolyn Pifer\, CPSS\, Carolyn is a peer professional and trainer who brings both experience and compassion into her work. She is married and\, with her husband\, shares six grown children and eight grandchildren. \nWith a deep understanding of homelessness\, poverty\, and rebuilding life after a major mental health crisis\, Carolyn offers a warm\, nonjudgmental approach to peer support. In her trainings\, she creates welcoming spaces that honor resilience\, shared experience\, and the belief that recovery is possible. \nBraunwynn Franklin\, CPSS\, is the founder of 313 Network Solutions. She is a consultant\, trainer\, and advocate advancing trauma-responsive\, peer-led systems across mental health\, crisis care\, incarceration\, and reentry. Grounded in lived experience\, her work centers around Black women\, formerly incarcerated people\, and community-based evidence\, translating practice into policy\, leadership development\, and equitable systems change through education\, facilitation\, and accountable partnerships nationwide. \nJose Salinas\, CPRC\, CPSS\, is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach and a state of Michigan Peer trainer.. With over a decade of experience in peer support\, Jose has facilitated trainings in Mental Health First Aid\, QPR (Question\, Persuade\, Refer)\, Emotional CPR\, and mindfulness-based programs for addiction recovery. He is deeply committed to helping individuals navigate recovery from substance use and mental health challenges\, offering trauma-sensitive\, and compassionate support rooted in lived experience. \nA person in long-term recovery from addiction\, mental health conditions\, trauma\, and poverty\, Jose is passionate about sharing his story to inspire hope and healing in others. He finds strength and connection through nature\, community\, and his two loyal Australian Shepherds\, Chiquis\, and Peques—his sunrise running partners on hidden trails. Jose believes he didn’t survive addiction for himself alone\, but to support others.
