SUMMARY:RAM Center- Mindfulness and the Science of Habit Change Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Habits are not a finish line to be crossed\, they’re a lifestyle to be lived.” – James Clear \nResearch shows that more than 40% of everything we do each day are not decisions but habits. So\, how do we cultivate habits that enhance our lives by supporting us in rough water and giving us an extra edge in calm seas? \nThis will be a full day of learning and exploration. We will discuss the conceptual underpinnings of how habits form and gain a deeper understanding of how to put that knowledge to work. We will look at the habit loop to see how both pleasant and unpleasant experiences reinforce our habits and how we can use that knowledge to break bad habits and cultivate good habits. \nMindfulness is the key to transforming our habit patterns by giving us the tools to see what we are doing clearly without being overwhelmed. It gives us the space to step back and look at our lives objectively and make wise choices about what we want to strengthen and what we want to lessen or eliminate. \nWith mindfulness\, we can move from living unconsciously and become the architects of our lives. Would you like to lessen or eliminate things like constantly checking social media\, procrastinating\, overeating\, or smoking? Or would you like to strengthen habits like eating well\, meditating\, or listening deeply? This training may be for you. \nWe will spend much of the day in mindfulness practices\, including sitting and walking meditation\, body scans\, and mindful movement practices. \nWhat’s Included:\n● Mindfulness and the Science of Habit Change Participant Handbook PDF.\n● Links to audio and video practices. \nAbout the Trainer: \nCarol Hendershot\, RYT 500\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness \nCarol has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and Mindful Self-Compassion classes since 2014. She has led hundreds of students through these programs. Her classes emphasize safety and self-honoring as she guides students to build resilience and strengthen their mindfulness skills. \nGrandrapidscenterformindfulness.com – carolhendershot@gmail.com – 616-745-1864 \n$50 Registration Fee. \nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 p.m. on August 19\, 2024. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. SUMMARY:Mindfulness Skills to Manage Difficult Emotions for Peers in Crisis Settings
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview:  \nWe all experience painful emotional states at times. Anger\, anxiety\, and fear are adaptive reactions to challenges because they direct our attention to threats to help us survive in difficult circumstances. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our moment-to-moment experience with curiosity and acceptance rather than judgment and resistance. By learning to pay attention in this way\, we can begin to diffuse the negative effects of complex emotions and understand their true meaning. \nMindfulness tools help us deal with these difficult mind states by focusing our attention on what is important right now. They also guide us to identify our triggers\, clarify our feelings\, and respond with wisdom. Mindfulness training has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to reduce distress\, improve the quality of our emotional fitness\, and even alter the structure and function of our brains. \nLearn Mindfulness Skills to: \n\nIdentify emotional triggers.\nReduce emotional reactivity.\nRecover from intense emotions more quickly.\nExamine the validity of our thoughts.\n\nLearn practices that increase resilience such as: \n\nYoga\, meditation\, and the body scan.\nRegular routines to release stress throughout the day.\n\nAccording to Peer Reviewed Research\, Regular Mindfulness Practice: \n\nReduces stress\, anxiety\, and depression.\nImproves sleep\, focus\, and attention.\nReduces symptoms of chronic illness and pain.\nEnhances ability to experience joy and contentment.\nIncreases confidence and self-acceptance.\n\nWhat’s Included: \n\nMindfulness for Difficult Emotions Participant Handbook PDF.\nLinks to audio and video practices.\n\nTrainer: \nCarol Hendershot\, RYT 500\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness \nCarol has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and has led hundreds of students through the program. SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Stress Resilience For Peers in Crisis Settings
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview: \nIn this training we will investigate what stress is and how it can negatively affect the body and mind. We will consider how stress can lead to physical illness\, anxiety\, and even burnout. We will then shift our attention to proven mindfulness skills to alleviate the debilitating aspects of stress. We will look at how altering our perspective can positively affect our ability to cope. \nMindfulness training has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to reduce distress\, improve the quality of our emotional fitness\, and even alter the structure and function of the brain. \nWhat is Mindfulness? \nMindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our moment-to-moment experience with acceptance and curiosity without resisting it or embellishing it. Much of our stress occurs when we let our minds run on autopilot\, which can lead to rumination and worry. Through simple practices\, mindfulness can improve our emotional resilience and strengthen our capacity to respond skillfully to life’s challenges. \nYou will learn: \n\nThe short- and long-term effects of stress on the mind and body.\nHow the mind can exacerbate distress.\nResearch that supports mindfulness as an intervention for chronic stress.\nSkills to move from unconsciously reacting to consciously responding to stress.\nFormal practices such as yoga\, meditation\, and the body scan that increase resilience.\nSmall ways to release stress throughout the day.\n\nAccording to Peer Reviewed Research\, Regular Mindfulness Practice: \n\nReduces stress\, anxiety\, and depression.\nImproves sleep\, focus\, and attention.\nReduces symptoms of chronic illness and pain.\nIncreases confidence and self-acceptance.\n\nWhat’s Included: \n\nIntroduction to Mindfulness for Stress Resilience Participant Handbook PDF.\nLinks to audio and video practices.\n\nTrainer: \nCarol Hendershot\, RYT 500\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness \nCarol has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and has led hundreds of students through the program. Her classes emphasize safety and self-honoring as she guides students to build resilience and strengthen their mindfulness skills. \nEligible for 4 MDHHS Continuing Education Credits \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org.
