SUMMARY:Detroit/Novi- Peer Connections in Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Peer Connections in Crisis emphasizes the value of lived experience and mutual support in crisis situations. This training teaches participants how peer support complements clinical services in crisis response. It equips peer supporters with essential tools and techniques that reduce tension or intensity. Emphasis is placed on creating sustainable\, healthy crisis support practices. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nDefinitions and types of crises along with common reactions.\nRole boundaries for relational crisis response.\nCrisis support skills that reduce tension or intensity.\nLived-experience–informed humility and trauma informed support responses.\nSelf-care and support after a crisis.\n\nCoffee and lunch will be served at this training. \nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits.  \nPlease note that a minimum of 12 participants is required for this training. If registration does not meet this minimum\, the session may be canceled. \nTrainers: \nDeborah Monroe is a CPSS\, CPRC and Community Health Worker. She has over 15 years of experience grounded in recovery\, connection\, and hope. She has provided state certification trainings within the Michigan Department of Corrections\, and supported individuals returning from incarceration\, she strengthened person-centered planning and is an independent facilitator in Oakland County. Deb is the lead trainer in providing crisis training on behalf of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Peer Services area. She established Michigan’s first Peer-run respite and has supported peers in a variety of crisis settings. Deb was appointed by two governors to three terms on the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission. She is an advanced Wellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) facilitator and provides statewide certification and continuing education training for CPSS and CPRC. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. SUMMARY:Kalamazoo- Emotional CPR Two Day Training
DESCRIPTION:Emotional CPR (eCPR) is a public health education program that teaches people how to support someone experiencing an emotional crisis using three simple steps: Connecting\, supporting\, and revitalizing. \nEmotional CPR (eCPR) draws from principles found in: \n\nTrauma-informed care.\n\n\nPost disaster counseling.\n\n\nPeer support.\n\n\nEmotional intelligence.\n\n\nSuicide prevention.\n\n\n\nRespect for individual backgrounds and lived experiences.\n\nParticipants will learn how to: \n\nSupport individuals in channeling anger or intense emotions into purpose and strength.\nSpark motivation and meaningful change.\nHelp others recognize their own courage and resilience.\nView crisis as a turning point for growth.\nEncourage next steps toward personal goals.\nPractice self-care to sustainably support others.\nGuide others in accessing their own inner wisdom.\n\nWho Can Attend: \nMichigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDDHS) Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coaches (CPRC). \nEligible for 13 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nBreakfast and lunch will be served at this training. \nTrainers: \nCarolyn Pifer\, CPSS\, Carolyn is a peer professional and trainer who brings both experience and compassion into her work. She is married and\, with her husband\, shares six grown children and eight grandchildren. \nWith a deep understanding of homelessness\, poverty\, and rebuilding life after a major mental health crisis\, Carolyn offers a warm\, nonjudgmental approach to peer support. In her trainings\, she creates welcoming spaces that honor resilience\, shared experience\, and the belief that recovery is possible. \nBraunwynn Franklin\, CPSS\, is the founder of 313 Network Solutions. She is a consultant\, trainer\, and advocate advancing trauma-responsive\, peer-led systems across mental health\, crisis care\, incarceration\, and reentry. Grounded in lived experience\, her work centers around Black women\, formerly incarcerated people\, and community-based evidence\, translating practice into policy\, leadership development\, and equitable systems change through education\, facilitation\, and accountable partnerships nationwide. \nDwayne Kelly CPSS\, is a retired Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Development Specialist with decades of experience serving veterans and individuals navigating mental health and life-transition challenges. He is a CPSS\, Emotional CPR and Ethics trainer. He is a 100% service-connected United States Marines Corp veteran and is recognized as a subject matter expert on veterans affairs. \nDwayne currently works part-time as a CPSS with Community Mental Health in Calhoun County at Summit Pointe\, where he continues his commitment to empowering individuals through advocacy\, education\, and peer-driven support. He is also the Founder/Executive Director of the Veteran Reinforcement Resource Center (VRRC)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans overcome barriers to benefits\, stability\, and well-being. Beyond his professional work\, Dwayne is a husband\, father\, grandfather\, and pastor\, roles that deeply inform his compassionate\, service-centered approach.
