SUMMARY:Marquette- Human Trafficking and the Effectiveness of Peer Support
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Human Trafficking and the Effectiveness of Peer Support is designed to provide peers with functional and practical tools\, enabling them to learn and better understand the crime of human trafficking\, the different types of human trafficking that exist\, and an understanding of the scope of the problem. This course will enable peers in the field to better identify human trafficking and provide greater assistance. Victims of human trafficking suffer a violation of human rights. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nTo gain an understanding of the scope and magnitude of human trafficking.\nUnderstand the unique dynamics of human trafficking and the circumstances that victims experience\, including the trauma and context of fear and manipulation.\nApply tools and victim assistance strategies when working with individuals involved in human trafficking to ensure their safety.\nDescribe the various partnerships that are essential for helping them.\nTo recognize and articulate the various forms of human trafficking and modern-day slavery that exist.\nTo understand the physical\, emotional\, and spiritual trauma experienced by victims.\nTo facilitate a discussion with your agency on human trafficking.\n\nEligible for 6.5 Continuing Education credits. \nPresented by: Deborah Monroe\, CPSS\, CPRC\, CHW \nDeborah Monroe is a Certified Peer Support Specialist\, Certified Peer Recovery Coach and Community Health Worker. She has over 15 years of experience grounded in recovery\, connection\, and hope. She has provided state certification trainings within the Michigan Department of Corrections\, and supported individuals returning from incarceration\, she strengthened person-centered planning and is an independent facilitator in Oakland County. Deb is the lead trainer in providing crisis training on behalf of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Peer Services area. She established Michigan’s first Peer-run respite and has supported peers in a variety of crisis settings. Deb was appointed by two governors to three terms on the Michigan Human Trafficking Commission. She is an advanced Wellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) facilitator and provides statewide certification and continuing education training for Peer Support Specialists and Recovery Coaches. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. If you are more than 10 minutes late you will not be allowed to attend as part of the CE requirements. Breaks are built into the training schedule. Participants who miss more than 10 minutes of the training outside of scheduled breaks will not receive CE credit. Attendees must follow the training guidelines.
