DESCRIPTION:Note: This training is only for individuals who are in the first recertification cycle of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) continuing education requirements. For the second recertification cycle\, Advanced Ethics will be required. \nTraining Overview: \nCertified peers across the state of Michigan are required to adhere to the Peer Code of Ethics to help protect both clients and peers. While many ethical issues seem obvious\, others can be more nuanced or unexpected. In this training\, we will explore the Peer Code of Ethics in more detail while outlining effective strategies to set professional boundaries that can help avoid or respond to ethical concerns you may face. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the core components of the MDHHS Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExplore possibilities of how unethical decisions happen.\nIdentify and evaluate self-care practices to maintain boundaries and ethical behavior.\nExplore how to be more effective when setting and maintaining boundaries.\nPractice and exercise decision-making skills when presented with an ethical dilemma.\n\nTrainers: \nHunter Spiess\, CPRC\, CPSS\, is an individual in long-term recovery who is dually certified as a Peer Support Specialist and Peer Recovery Coach. With five years of experience in the peer profession and a strong background in harm reduction\, Hunter is committed to supporting individuals navigating substance use\, mental health challenges\, and personal transformation. \nGrounded in ethics\, compassion\, and lived experience\, he brings a steady\, person-centered approach to recovery support and training as a peer trainer for MDHHS. Hunter is also a musician and a proud uncle to two wonderful children\, who continually inspire his dedication to fostering hope\, resilience\, and connection within the communities he serves. \nGlynis Morris\, CPSS\, CPRC\, is a Certified Peer Support Specialist and MDHHS-certified Recovery Coach with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She recently retired after more than 10 years with Lincoln Behavioral Services in Redford\, Michigan\, where she facilitated groups on trauma and co-occurring disorders and served as a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) team. \nGlynis brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work. She has trained CPSS and CPRC professionals across Michigan on human trafficking and trauma-informed healing\, offering a compassionate\, real-world perspective grounded in recovery and resilience. Her passion lies in giving back to individuals who feel hopeless after experiencing the cruelty of life and in walking alongside others as they rediscover strength\, purpose\, and healing. \nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nCoffee and lunch will be served at this training. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. In this interactive training\, we’ll take a deep dive into the Peer Code of Ethics and unpack real-world scenarios that test professional judgement. Participants will learn practical strategies to set healthy boundaries\, navigate gray areas\, and confidently respond to ethical challenges. \nTraining Objectives:  \n\nCompare and contrast personal values with peer support values.\nExplore ethical scenarios using the Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExamine personal boundaries considering workplace policies.\nIdentify barriers to self-care and methods to improve self-care.\n\nTrainers: \nDwayne Kelly CPSS\, is a retired Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Development Specialist with decades of experience serving veterans and individuals navigating mental health and life-transition challenges. He is a CPSS\, Emotional CPR and Ethics trainer. He is a 100% service-connected United States Marine Corp veteran and is recognized as a subject matter expert on veteran’s affairs. \nDwayne currently works part-time as a CPSS with Community Mental Health in Calhoun County at Summit Pointe\, where he continues his commitment to empowering individuals through advocacy\, education\, and peer-driven support. He is also the Founder/Executive Director of the Veteran Reinforcement Resource Center (VRRC)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans overcome barriers to benefits\, stability\, and well-being. \nBeyond his professional work\, Dwayne is a husband\, father\, grandfather\, and pastor\, roles that deeply inform his compassionate\, service-centered approach. His life’s work reflects a passion for strengthening individuals\, families\, and communities\, especially those who have served. \nRodasi Campbell\, CPRC\, RCPF\, ERYT\, is a woman on the path of discovery in recovery from substances\, mental health\, relationships\, and the mind. She has an extensive background in spirituality and health including yogic science\, women’s spirituality and alternative and earth-based spiritualities.
