DESCRIPTION:Training Overview: \nCertified peers across the state of Michigan are required to adhere to the Peer Code of Ethics to help protect both clients and peers. While many ethical issues seem obvious\, others can be more nuanced or unexpected. In this training\, we will explore the Peer Code of Ethics in more detail while outlining effective strategies to set professional boundaries that can help avoid or respond to ethical concerns you may face. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the core components of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) code of ethics.\nExplore possibilities of how unethical decisions happen.\nIdentify and evaluate self-care practices to maintain boundaries and ethical behavior.\nExplore how to be more effective when setting and maintaining boundaries.\nPractice and exercise decision-making skills when presented with an ethical dilemma.\n\nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 pm on May 26\, 2025. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. SUMMARY:Dearborn/Detroit - Supervision Insights: Dialogue and Interactive Learning for Supervisors and Peer Support Workers
DESCRIPTION:Supervision is essential for organizational success! The goal is to learn from each other and advance peer support practice and supervision through collective wisdom and collaboration. \nDr. Jonathan P. Edwards is a social scientist\, public health professional\, Licensed Clinical Social Worker\, Certified Peer Specialist\, Certified Personal Medicine Coach\, and serves on the faculty of Columbia University School of Social Work and as a clinical instructor at Yale School of Medicine Program for Recovery and Community Health (PRCH). He led the largest peer support workforce within the New York City Hospital system and significantly contributed to the development of the peer support workforce. Dr. Edwards has published research on job satisfaction and supervision practices; contributed to the development of National Practice Guidelines for Peer Support Specialists and Supervisors; presented on research and practice nationally and internationally; served on a technical expert panel to develop National Model Standards for Peer Support Certification\, as well as a national recovery research agenda. He has received several awards and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles\, book chapters\, and co-edited the recently published “What It Takes: Wisdom from Peer Support Specialists and Supervisors”.   \nSession Topics: \n\nHistory and Landscape of Peer Support Workforce.\nThe five critical functions of supervision.\nSupervision as collaboration.\nMyth mongering and fact finding.\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe events leading to organized peer support.\nArticulate the core values of peer support.\nIdentify the five critical functions of supervision.\nDefine Collaborative Supervision.\nProvide examples of stigmatizing language.\n\nVirtual Follow-Up Sessions: \n\nIn addition to this initial training session\, the trainer for this session will be hosting four 90-minute virtual sessions for attendees of this training. Dates will be determined at a later time based on attendee’s feedback.\n\nTrainer: Jonathan P. Edwards\, Ph.D.\, LCSW\, NYCPS\, PSP \nPlease note:  Both a supervisor and a peer from the organization must attend. Each $75 ticket purchase registers one Supervisor and one Peer Recovery Coach/Peer Support Specialist to attend. Information for both the Supervisor and Peer will be required during registration. Attendance is limited to one Supervisor/Peer per agency at this time.
