SUMMARY:Northern Michigan Summit- Spirituality for Peers
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this program is to help you\, as a Peer\, understand what spirituality is and how you would help someone discover it. This two-day course will help you explore your own beliefs and values regarding spirituality. This training will provide you with the tools and resources needed as a Peer so you can speak about spirituality in an accepting way. This training is going to challenge you in a way that helps to promote your understanding of spirituality. Spirituality plays a large part in recovery and by completing this course\, you will be able to help those you serve understand\, accept\, and embrace spirituality for themselves. \nSpirituality Outcomes \n\nDiscuss the role of spirituality in the recovery process. Participants will learn to recognize barriers individuals may face in exploring their spirituality and develop strategies to address these challenges\, fostering resilience and coping mechanisms in recovery.\nIdentify and understand their own spiritual beliefs and values\, and how these may influence their peer work.\nDevelop skills to facilitate open and respectful discussions about spirituality with individuals in recovery\, fostering a safe space for exploration.\nEngage in self-care practices and strategies that nurture their own spiritual well-being. Participants will identify ways to help individuals build or connect with spiritual support networks.\nLearn how to collaboratively integrate spiritual practices and beliefs into individualized recovery plans\, enhancing holistic support.\n\nBy achieving these learning outcomes\, peers will be better equipped to support those they work with in exploring and integrating spirituality into their recovery process\, fostering a more holistic approach to healing. \nPresented by: \nRodasi Campbell\, CPRC\, RCPF\, ERYT\, is a woman on the path of discovery in recovery from substances\, mental health\, relationships\, and the mind. She has an extensive background in spirituality & health including yogic science\, women’s spirituality and alternative and earth-based spiritualities. Rodasi is a mom\, an author\, and Peer Recovery Coach Trainer for MDHHS. \nEligible for 13 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 pm on April 27\, 2025. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org. DESCRIPTION:This introductory training on Harm Reduction is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the harm reduction approach in addressing substance use. Rooted in the principles outlined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)\, this training explores the historical development of the harm reduction movement\, its core values\, and the implementation of effective harm reduction services. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how harm reduction strategies prioritize health\, dignity\, and human rights while working towards reducing the negative consequences of substance use. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the nonjudgmental\, client-centered approach of harm reduction\, focusing on building trust and minimizing harm rather than solely focusing on abstinence.\nGain insight into the origins of the harm reduction movement\, including its roots in public health and social justice.\nIdentify Harm Reduction services and strategies.\nDiscuss the importance of integrating harm reduction into broader healthcare and social service systems to increase accessibility and effectiveness.\nCritically assess the benefits and challenges of Harm Reduction approaches.\nReflect on the outcomes of harm reduction strategies in reducing public health risks\, such as the spread of infectious diseases and overdose deaths.\nAnalyze potential challenges\, such as stigma\, limited funding\, and opposition to harm reduction initiatives in some communities.\n\nBy the end of this training\, participants will have a foundational understanding of harm reduction and will be equipped to implement these principles in their work\, creating a more supportive and compassionate environment for those affected by substance use. \nTrainers: Sara Szczotka\, Hunter Spiess-Whittaker \nEligible for 6.5 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. \nRegistration for this event will end at 11:59 pm on April 27\, 2025. \nNote: There’s construction in the area\, so please plan for detours. \nRegistration: Please register below (on this site) using a credit or debit card\, which is the quickest way to confirm your attendance. \nONLY if you need to pay by check\, please complete this form (click here) and email it to: registration@mipeers.org.
