DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This training will run April 24th 1-5p.m. EST\, and April 25th 9a.m. -5p.m EST.* \nPeer providers are frequently asked to lead support groups\, team meetings\, committees\, and various spaces. Refresh and enhance your skills in this two-day workshop. We will share and learn effective tools and strategies for facilitating from each other. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nEnhanced confidence with facilitating.\nBoost your skills with tips and strategies to add to your facilitation repertoire.\nShowcase learned skills through live facilitation demonstration.\n\nPresented by: \nTamra Oman is a national speaker\, consultant\, and group facilitator. She believes deeply in cultivating a culture of hope\, healing\, and compassion for all. She was the first “peer/consumer” to be hired in the state of Wisconsin to work in a correctional facility. Ms. Oman uses humor and compassion to connect with her audience. She brings a unique perspective based on her own personal and professional experiences.\nPaula Buege is a fierce advocate for rights and dignity for people to make their own decisions. Currently she works directly with individuals and families who have children experiencing social/emotional/mental health and substance use challenges. She infuses her lived experience into\nher trainings and daily work. \nEligible for 10.25 MDHHS Continuing Education credits. This is a virtual training. SUMMARY:Managing Difficult Emotions: Mindfulness for Peers in Crisis Settings
DESCRIPTION:We all experience painful emotional states. Anger\, anxiety\, and fear arrive without warning. These are adaptive reactions to life circumstances that help us recognize and confront challenges. \nWith mindfulness we learn to calm our nervous system and meet these inevitable difficulties with curiosity instead of resistance. By paying attention in this way\, we begin to diffuse the negative effects of complex emotions so we can focus on what is most important and respond with wisdom. \nMindfulness training has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to reduce distress\, improve the quality of our emotional fitness\, and even alter the structure and function of our brains. \nAccording to Peer Reviewed Research\, Regular Mindfulness Practice:  \n\nReduce stress\, anxiety\, and depression.\nImproves sleep\, focus\, and attention.\nEnhances ability to experience joy and contentment.\nIncreases confidence and self-acceptance.\n\nLearn Mindfulness Skills to: \n\nIdentify emotional triggers.\nReduce emotional reactivity.\nRecover from intense emotions more quickly.\nExamine the validity of our thoughts.\n\nLearn Practices That Increase Resilience Such as: \n\nYoga\, meditation\, and the body scan.\nRegular routines to release stress throughout the day.\n\nWhat’s Included:  \n\nMindfulness for Difficult Emotions Handbook PDF.\nLinks to audio and video practices.\n\nCarol Hendershot\, RYT 500\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness  \nCarol has been teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and has led hundreds of students through the program.
