SUMMARY:RAM Center- Mindfulness and the Science of Habit Change Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Habits are not a finish line to be crossed\, they’re a lifestyle to be lived.” – James Clear \nResearch shows that more than 40% of everything we do each day are not decisions but habits. So\, how do we cultivate habits that enhance our lives by supporting us in rough water and giving us an extra edge in calm seas? \nThis will be a full day of learning and exploration. We will discuss the conceptual underpinnings of how habits form and gain a deeper understanding of how to put that knowledge to work. We will look at the habit loop to see how both pleasant and unpleasant experiences reinforce our habits and how we can use that knowledge to break bad habits and cultivate good habits. \nMindfulness is the key to transforming our habit patterns by giving us the tools to see what we are doing clearly without being overwhelmed. It gives us the space to step back and look at our lives objectively and make wise choices about what we want to strengthen and what we want to lessen or eliminate. \nWith mindfulness\, we can move from living unconsciously and become the architects of our lives. Would you like to lessen or eliminate things like constantly checking social media\, procrastinating\, overeating\, or smoking? Or would you like to strengthen habits like eating well\, meditating\, or listening deeply? This training may be for you. \nWe will spend much of the day in mindfulness practices\, including sitting and walking meditation\, body scans\, and mindful movement practices. \nWhat’s Included:\n● Mindfulness and the Science of Habit Change Participant Handbook PDF.\n● Links to audio and video practices. \nAbout the Trainer: \nCarol Hendershot\, RYT 500\nCertified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor\nCo-Founder\, Grand Rapids Center for Mindfulness \nCarol has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2008 and Mindful Self-Compassion classes since 2014.
